Les Bateaux Lyonnais dinner cruise - by Management
Description
The Dinner Cruise offered by Les Bateaux Lyonnais takes customers past the Quais du Rhône then goes upstream onto the Saone river at the Confluence and up to the Vieux Lyon until Ile Barbe before returning. The sightseeing is complemented by commentaries in French and English. The food consists in a 3-course meal with a child menu (3-12yrs old) and can be complemented with "drinks packages" (additional fee apply) that include cocktail/champagne, 1 or 2 wine glasses, water and tea/coffee.
Access & Transport
Boarding for the Hermès Boat is at 16 quai Claude Bernard in Lyon's 7th arr. This is on the left bank of the Rhône river, at the foot of the University Bridge Trams stops "Quai Claude Bernard" (T1) and "Rue de l’Université" (T1) are both a 2mins walk away and bus 35 also stops at the latter. The closest car parks are "Antonin Poncet", "Berthelot" and "Fosse aux ours" The Hermès II Boat departs from the Quais de Saône, at 3Bis quai Rambaud in Lyon's 2nd arr. This is next to the Lyon Perrache train station and a 10mins walk from the Ampère Victor Hugo metro station (A). For parking, use either the Confluence or Perrache station car parks
Instructions & Recommendations
Reservations required - Departures scheduled for 30 passengers minimum. Doors open at 20h10 and the boat leaves at 20h30
Environmental & Social
For the time being two boats out of five in the fleet are electrically powered and the other three run on fossil fuels (incl. the restaurant boats). Heading in the right direction. Neutral from a social perspective.
Conclusion
In our opinion, a "well executed" dinner cruise makes for a truly memorable experience and potentially the opportunity to celebrate a special event. We think the option reviewed here qualifies and the meal and drinks are both reasonably priced (that does not mean cheap), especially considering the service and setting.
Key positive
A great way to enjoy landmarks in quick succession in a social setting
Good quality food and service
Key negative
Value is fine but it is far from being cheap
Suitability
There is a child menu, so suitable for children. Some boats are accessible to wheelchair users with some assistance but not all so you would need to check with management before booking
