Mercado de Atarazanas, Málaga - by Markus Klemenschitz on Google
Description
The Central Market of Atarazanas is Malaga's main municipal market for fresh produces. It was built at the end of the 19th century and inspired by the iron market of Les Halles (Paris), preserving the marble gate from the existing Nasrid naval workshop. There are stained glass windows made by the Atienza brothers in 1973 that represent various monuments of the city.
Access & Transport
Address: 10 Calle Atarazanas, Malaga Bus #17 stops on C. Atarazanas and #36 at Pl. de Arriola. Parking 'Arriola' is next to the market
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with the nearby CAC Málaga (contemporary art museum), a visit of the Cathedral or of the Hammam Al Andalus (Arabian Baths)
Environmental & Social
No environmental / sourcing data The small producers' aspect is a positive from a social perspective. Not over-commercialized
Conclusion
The market isn't widely considered as a tourist attraction, this is probably the very reason why it has remained so authentic, delivering both good products at fair prices and an "authentic" experience. If you are staying several days in the city and have a kitchen, this is where to restock!
