Picasso Museum Málaga

8 Calle San Agustín, Málaga, Andalucía

Description

The Museo Picasso Málaga houses a collection of nearly 300 works donated by members of the artist's family. It is located in the 16th century Buenavista Palace and across 18 houses from the old judería (Jewish Quarter), only 200m from Pablo Picasso's birthplace (around Pl. de la Merced). The museum also houses temporary exhibitions.

Access & Transport

Address: Palacio de Buenavista c/ San Agustín, 8 The closest bus stops are south of the ‘Paseo del Parque-Ayuntamiento’ and north of the ‘Plaza de la Merced’. The nearest car park is at the Plaza de la Marina and Alcazaba

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this with the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba and the Cathedral. The Museo de Malaga is also close by but we would not recommend visiting back-to-back.

Meta review

Although it bears the artist's name, the museum isn't famous outside of the city but online reviews are mostly very positive. Visitors enjoy not just the paintings, drawings and sculptures on display but also the building and the fact that the collection covers its various periods, providing context and explanations through the audio-guide.

Environmental & Social

No data available online. Minor environmental impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). It helps spread culture and the arts

Conclusion

The Picasso Museum Málaga brings together a diverse range of artwork of the Malaga-born artist in an elegant building. One need not be a fan of Cubism or Picasso to enjoy the artwork and the educational aspects

Key positive

Plenty of works by the master!

Centrally located

Key negative

Few famous masterpieces

Suitability

Best suited for 12yrs old and above given the cultural & artistic aspect. The museum appears to be wheelchair accessible.
