Playa de la Malagueta, Málaga

Paseo Marítimo Ciudad de Melilla, Málaga, Andalucía

Description

Playa de la Malagueta is the closest beach from the central district of Malaga, in Andalusia. It is located between the port and the beach of La Caleta, stretching about 1.2km with a depth of around 40-50m of dark sand. It has a 'blue flag' rating with comprehensive amenities.

Access & Transport

The beach is immediately south of Av. de Canovas del Castillo / Paseo Maritimo Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The closest bus stops are on Paseo de la Farola (western side) and Paseo Reding (central). There are some car parks near la Farola lighthouse (eastern end) and within the Malagueta neighbourhood.

Instructions & Recommendations

The beach and the sun can be strong here so don't forget the usual protective equipment (hat/cap, "green" sunblock, sunglasses, slippers) and some water.

Meta review

Chances are you would have seen pictures of Malaga's seaside starring this beach but, though visitors enjoy the promenade with its palm trees, online reviews are not exactly complimentary about the attractiveness of the beach with its greyish sand and sometimes irritating beach vendors. The main reason behind the popularity seems to be its location, close to the city and the hotels.

Environmental & Social

Reasonable infrastructure and low carbon footprint. No negative social impact

Conclusion

Easily the most convenient beach to reach for anybody staying in the city center. However, if you are after a quality natural beach with enjoyable water and sand, then you should look for alternatives.
