Description
The Roman Theatre of Málaga is the main vestige of the Roman presence in the settlement of Malacca, in Hispania (created by the Phoenician as Malaka in the 6th century BC). It is estimated to date from the 1st century BC and was "rediscovered" in 1951. As was the norm, it takes advantage of a natural hill to accommodate tiered seating. There is an interpretation center that provides visitors with an introduction to the Roman world and the monument itself.
Access & Transport
The monument is on Calle Alcazabilla, at the base of the Alcazaba. There are a couple of parkings at the northern end of that street. The closest bus stops are on C. Victoria (next to Pl. de la Merced) and Paseo del Parque (in Parque de Malaga)
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit here with the Alcazaba, the Cathedral and one of the museums in the neighbourhood.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral except for some electricity consumption (lighting). This activity helps preserve the city's architectural and historical heritages
