Artá Caves, Mallorca - by Daniel Podoll on Google
Description
The Caves of Artà were formed by underground water dissolving the limestone rock (karst). Formations includes flowstones, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and hangings. Visitors will discover the Entrance Hall, the Queens of Columns (a 17m stalagmite), a sound and light show in the Hall of Hell followed by another 4 halls: known as Purgatory, the Theatre, the hall of Flags, and the Glory. The tours are guided and last about 40mins with explanations in different languages: Spanish, English, French and German. Horizontal distance is 700m.
Access & Transport
The caves are 7km south of Capdepera, along Mallorca's northeastern coastline. Bus 424 goes there from Capdepera. The distance to Arta is 12km and to Palma, 80km.
Instructions & Recommendations
Tours depart approximately every 30mins. The temperature in the caves ranges between 17°C and 22°C, with a high humidity, so you may want to bring a sweater.
Environmental & Social
Low carbon footprint (electricity) We deem this activity socially neutral
Conclusion
The Cuevas de Arta are, in our opinion, very nice but not exceptional. If you have not seen caves in a while and you are in Mallorca then you should consider adding these or the Drach Caves to your itinerary.
