Llotja de Palma

5 Plaça de la Llotja, Palma, Illes Balears

Description

The Llotja de Palma (or 'Sa Llotja') was the city's guildhall. It was built in the 15th century and is characterized by the ogive dome supported by helicoidal columns. It is located next to the Consulado del Mar, a Renaissance building now housing the HQ of the regional government.

Access & Transport

The building is at the southern end of the historical center of Palma, next to the Port. Buses CC, 25 and 35 all stop within 150m.

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this attraction with a visit of the Cathedral and/or the Royal Palace of La Almudaina.

Meta review

The building gets compared quite regularly to the Lonja de Valancia but, though it may not be as impressive, there are no entrance fees and visitors will rewarded with beautiful gothic arches and impressive acoustics. The only drawback according to online reviewers is the lack of information.

Environmental & Social

Green activity except for some electricity consumption (lighting). This activity helps preserve the city's architectural and cultural heritages

Conclusion

Sa Llotja is part and parcel of the architectural and civic heritage of Palma + there is no charge to enter, so make sure to have a look and enjoy this well-preserved building.
