Marin Headlands - by Manoj Biswal on Google
Description
The Marin Headlands is a peninsula at the southern end of Marin County, across the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco's Presidio. It is technically part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and still retains historic military fortifications, bunkers and batteries built to prevent ships from entering San Francisco Bay. The highlights are the hiking trails, views over the Golden Gate Bridge (probably the best there is) and Hawk Hill, a lookout point for observing raptors such as hawks, kites, falcons and eagles.
Access & Transport
Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge on the 101 taking exit 442 from San Francisco. Bus 130 stops at the expressway exit but doesn't go to the entrance of the park.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the town of Sausalito or some hiking in the adjacent Muir Woods.
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity. Socially neutral
Conclusion
The perfect antidote to the hustle of the city is waiting for you just across the GG bridge with fantastic view of this landmark and very scenic hikes. Continue on with lunch or dinner in Sausalito or more outdoor time in the nearby Muir Woods. Highly recommended for those who want to explore what the Bay area has to offer.
