Description
The Cantini Museum comprises contemporary and modern art collections housed in a late 17th century Marseille townhouse owned by the municipality. Several schools are represented: pointillism, fauvism, cubism, abstract art, dadaism, Art deco, Surrealism, a large collection of Francois Maury's work, and many sculptures and drawings.
Access & Transport
Address: 19 rue Grignan in Marseille 6th Arr. Métro stations Estrangin (M1) and Notre Dame du Mont (M2) are 350m and 550m away, Rome Davso and Place de Rome tram lines (T3) are both 300m away. There are also several bus stops in the area.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with an exploration of the Vieux Port, Opera and Canebière area.
Environmental & Social
Minor environmental impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Helps spread culture and the arts
Conclusion
The Musée Cantini has a limited collection which is superior to most small art museums but can't rival with the big names; as such we would only recommend it to art lovers, regional residents or if you are lucky enough to visit Marseille when the topic of the regular temporary exhibitions is of specific personal interest.
