Parc Borély - by Jeremie Hkb on Google
Description
Parc Borély is a municipal park in Marseille; it covers 17ha and consists of a French style Garden, an English Garden and a horse racetrack. It was created in the 17th century by Joseph Borély, a ship owner and wine merchant, as part of his estate that included a country house (the Château Borély). It was acquired by the municipality in the middle of the 19h century. A promenade connects the park to the seaside.
Access & Transport
The parc is 4.5km south of the city center, in the 8th arrondissement. Bus 19 and 83 alight on its northern side and bus 44 on its southern one. Metro is also a viable option for those who don't mind walking: the Rond Point du Prado station (M2) is 2km northeast of the parc. For parking, you can try Av. du Parc Borély or at the racecourse next door.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with some time at the Prado beach, a 5-10mins walk away. If you have a car, you can also head to the Calanques national park (reviewed separately) for a hike and possibly a swim.
Environmental & Social
Green activity. It also provides public green spaces for residents to enjoy
Conclusion
The Parc Borély is, in our opinion, not a must see in the city but, for anybody spending at least three days visiting Marseille, it is the perfect "green break", especially for families with younger kids. It also makes a good combination with the beaches that can be reached through a short walk along a promenade.
