Marseille Soap Museum - by Management
Description
The Marseille Soap Museum is operated by the Savonnerie de la Licorne (that owns the soap shop next to it) within the Old Galley Arsenal that was used to house galleymen and hard labour convicts before their transfer to Toulon. Entrance is free and visitors can discover machinery related to the world of soap and soapmaking. The museum also offers soap manufacturing and personalization workshops. At the time of review, those took place at 11h00, 12h00, 14h00, 15h00, 16h00 and 17h00 daily and the fee was for €5.5 per person.
Access & Transport
Address: 25 Quai de Rive Neuve, on the southern edge of the Vieux Port Bus stop "Place aux Huiles" (82, 83, 583) is a stone throw from the museum and the Vieux Port metro station (M1) is 500m / 6' walk away.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the St Victor Abbay and an exploration of the Vieux Port neighbourhood.
Environmental & Social
We deem this activity environmentally and socially neutral
Conclusion
The "savon de Marseille" is world famous and the city has been producing it since the 14th century. The museum is small but gives a good insight in the manufacturing process and the shop next door is a great place to buy a useful souvenir.
