Historical Technical Museum, Peenemünde - by Management
Description
The Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum is dedicated to the Peenemünde Army Research Centre and Luftwaffe test site of Peenemünde-West. It occupies the former local power station in eastern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. The centre and test site were used by von Braun and his team to develop rocket and missiles between 1936 and 1945 such as the V-1 bomb and V-2 rocket, the first cruise missiles and large-scale rockets. The permanent exhibition also includes a section covering the technology developed there during the Cold War. Trivia: building on his technical experience, von Braun was instrumental in the development of the Saturn V rocket that flew US astronauts to the moon.

Environmental & Social
We deem this activity environmentally neutral and socially marginally positive as it seeks to document the site's role and history
Conclusion
The Historical Technical Museum of Peenemünde has potential and is clearly an original proposition but it is let down in terms of execution. Considering it is quite out of the way from the rest of the regional tourist sights we would not recommend a long detour for it.
Key positive
The rocket and missiles are not a common sight
Key negative
Not many other tourist attractions around
Could do with more technical depth
Suitability
No information regarding accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility but most of the exhibits seem to be on the ground floor and therefore barrier free.
