Description
The Jasmund National Park is located along the north-eastern coastline of Rügen island in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is notable for having the largest chalk cliffs in the country, some of which reach 160m above the Baltic Sea. The park also consists of beech forest and hosts a varied fauna and flora such as black alders, white-tailed eagles and kingfishers. The highlight is considered to be the Königsstuhl (meaning "king's chair").
Access & Transport
The park is about 25km from Bergen auf Rügen (the main town on the island) and 55km from Stralsund, on the mainland. The train from those towns reaches all the way to Sagard and Sassnitz, both close to the entrance. For details around accessibility, refer to the following link: https://www.nationalpark-jasmund.de/en/experience-recuperate/out-and-about-in-nature/accessibility
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with other attractions on the island such as Binzer Beach, Granitz Hunting Lodge and the Island of Hiddensee.
Environmental & Social
Green activity and socially neutral (Rugen already has enough visitors as it is)
Conclusion
If you are on Rügen Island or generally keen on natural features, then Jasmund national park is definitely worth a detour.
