Description
The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore in Milan was constructed during the Roman period and subsequently rebuilt several times; the mix of structures and designs can readily be seen from outside. Highlights include some frescoed ceilings and mosaics (some of them preserved in a small museum) as well as the Colonne di San Lorenzo (3rd century BC) opposite the basilica.
Access & Transport
The church is near the city park called Basilicas Park, 1km (15mins walk) southwest of Il Duomo. The tram stations of 'Colonne di S.Lorenzo' (3) and 'Carrobbio' (3) stop almost next to the church and Bus 94 stops on Via Molino delle Armi.

Kindly dress conservatively since this is a place of worship. You can easily combine this activity with a visit of the Basilica of Sant' Eustorgio and the nearby Roman Colonne di San Lorenzo.

Environmentally neutral. Donations and museum entrance fees help preserve this historic building, part of the city's architectural heritage.
