Indro Montanelli Garden, Milan

Via Palestro, Milano, Lombardia

Description

The Indro Montanelli Public Gardens (previously known as Giardini di Porta Venezia) is an urban parc in Milan. It was created at the end of the 18th century and enlarged with some English landscaping in the mid-19th century. Notable buildings include the Ulrico Hoepli Planetarium, the 17th Century Palazzo Dugnani and the Natural History Museum. There is also a statue of the journalist and writer Indro Montanelli after whom the park is named (he was a daily visitor).

Access & Transport

The park is 1.5km to the northeast of the city center / Il Dumo, next to Porta Venezia. The latter has a train and metro station (M1), Palesto metro (M1) is also close by, so is 'P.za Cavour' (T1), Turati (M3, T1) and 'V.le Vittorio Veneto' (T1, T9, T33).

Instructions & Recommendations

We recommend combining this activity with a visit of the Modern Art Gallery and/or Natural History Museum, both in the park itself.

Meta review

Online reviews for the park are good, pointing out the presence of areas shaded by trees, kids playgrounds and benches to sit and relax on. Outdoor enthusiasts describe it as a poor substitute for the real thing, which is true of most urban parks.

Environmental & Social

A green attraction. Positive for the community as green spaces make for a better living environment

Conclusion

Pleasant urban park with grass and shaded areas as well as some cultural venues inside.
