Description
The Quadrilatero della Moda is Milan's high-end shopping district. Located to the south of Porta Nuova, it is delimited by Via Montenapoleone (SW), Via Manzoni (NW), Via della Spiga (NE), and Corso Venezia (SE). The best-known streets are Via Gesù, Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga.
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood is a 5mins walk northeast of Il Duomo, in between the Montenapoleone (M3, T1) and San Babila (M1) stations. There are also bus stops along Via Senato.
Instructions & Recommendations
Most stores open around 10h-11h and some close on Sundays. This neighbourhood is on the way from the centre (Duomo) to the Indro Montanelli Garden where the Modern Art Gallery and the Natural History Museum are located.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally, there is no data at the neighbourhood level, but it is mostly concrete with little by way of green spaces. From a social perspective, this has pretty much always been an upper-class residential area so there has been little or no impact on the community, except to render it ever more exclusive
Conclusion
Excellent fashion shopping sprinkled with a few nice buildings. This is shoppers' territory and also worth a quick walk-through for urban explorers.
Key positive
Many luxury brands concentrated in a small area
Easy to get to and centrally located
Key negative
Not much to see other than retail stores
Most of the stores are luxury ones so not for everybody
Suitability
Suitable for all ages but will be of little interest to children. Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
