Description
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is located just south of Carmel-by-the-Sea, in Monterey County, California. It also marks the northern start of the Big Sur coast and drive along the Pacific Ocean. It contains a rich and diverse plant and animal life, both on land and underwater (it is a popular scuba diving spot) with native species such as the Monterey Cypress. There are several trails that can be explored and a whaling station museum. The trail shared in the link is about 10km and roughly follows the edges and crannies of the park, starting and ending at the parking area. Elevation gain is minimum (~200m) and the trails mostly non-technical (hard packed sand), making them adequate for all fitness and experience levels
Access & Transport
The reserve is 6km south of Carmel and 12km from Monterey along the CA-1. There is a parking ($10 fee) but spaces are limited; when full, visitors should park on the shoulder of the main road and walk in.
Instructions & Recommendations
Note that dogs are not allowed inside Point Lobos (even if left in the vehicle). Bring a windbreaker and some water. Best to use proper walking footwear.
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity. Socially neutral

Fantastic coastline with easy trails and lots of wildlife - including possibly whales just offshore during migration seasons. The perfect end or start to the Big Sur drive or combo with a weekend stay at Carmel.
