Salzillo Museum - by Soledad Martinez on Google
Description
The Salzillo Museum is dedicated to the works of the Murcian baroque sculptor Francisco Salzillo. The 2 main collections are the "Processional steps of the Brotherhood of Jesus" and its famous "Bethlehem" of 556 pieces. There are a few other scenes and numerous sketches as well.
Access & Transport
The museum is at #3 Plaza de San Augustin. Entrance is on Calle Dr Jesus Quesada Several bus lines stop in front of the building and it is only a 10mins walk to the center of town. Murcia is 230km south of Valencia, 85km from Alicante and 150km southeast of Albacete.
Instructions & Recommendations
There are guided visits at 12h00 (reservation required, max 15 pers.) year-round and at 16h00 as well outside of the summer - they cost 7€/pers.
Environmental & Social
Minor environmental impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Helps preserve the artist's works.
Conclusion
The works of Salzillo show great skills and probably love for the craft, but the theme is so specific: Christian religious art related to the nativity and other scenes of the Bible, that it is difficult to recommend it for most people. Have a look at the pictures and see what you think before heading there
