Royal Palace of Olite - by Pablo De Lera Rodriguez on Google

Description
The Royal Palace of Olite is also called the Palace of the Kings of Navarre of Olite and was one of the seats of the Court of the Kingdom of Navarre from the late 14th century until its annexation by the Crown of Castile in 1512. The complex is divided in three sections: the Old Palace (now a Parador), the New Palace (open to visits) and the ruins of the Chapel of San Jorge. The New Palace has moats, towers, several patios and several rooms such as the King's Room (for banquets) and the Mudéjar room with Islamic plasterwork decoration.
Access & Transport
The castle is in the middle of the town of Olite, 40km south of Pamplona. From Pamplona, there are direct trains (35mins - 5mins walk from the station) and buses. By car, take the AP-15 and exit 50 onto the N-121 just south of Tafalla.
Instructions & Recommendations
At the time of this review update, the renovation works were still ongoing. We suggest combining this activity with the village and fortress-church of Ujue.
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral except for some electricity consumption (lighting and heating). Preserves the region's architectural and cultural heritages and brings some economic influx to the town
Conclusion
The Royal Palace of Olite look impressive from outside but the experience feels somewhat incomplete given that it is essentially devoid of content. As such, in our opinion, it is a nice to see for those in the area (or from Pamplona) but not worth a major detour.
Key positive
Well-restored and some fancy towers
Key negative
No furniture and deco
Suitability
The Palace is partially accessible for people with reduced mobility (ramps and elevator)
