Description
Brooklyn Heights is a residential neighbourhood in New York City located directly south of Brooklyn Bridge and known for its riverside promenade (Brooklyn Heigh Promenade, a 550m pedestrian walkway) and brownstone townhouses dating from the early 19th century. Architectural highlights and landmarks include the Herman Behr Mansion, the Plymouth Church, the Center for Brooklyn History, Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral and the mansions along Pierrepont Street and Pierrepont Place.
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood and promenade are a short walk from Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo and the Brooklyn Bridge. The Clark St (2, 3), Borough Hall (2, 3, 4, 5) and Court Street stations (N, R, W) are within the neighbourhood.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining a visit there with a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan
Environmental & Social
It is an urban environment but there are few high-rises and a fair number of green spaces and trees. Neutral from a social perspective as tourism doesn't have a large impact on the neighbourhood
Conclusion
A different experience from Midtown or Downtown Manhattan and easy to get to (walk across the Brooklyn Bridge on your way there). This should be a favourite with urban explorers and those taking an interest into the historical development of the city.
