The Brooklyn Museum is New York City's second largest museum and is housed in a Beaux Arts building built at the turn of the 20th century. The collections span American Art (paintings from the 19th to mid-20th centuries), Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art (statuary, papyrus documents, etc.), Arts of the Islamic World (texts and objects), European Art from the Italian Renaissance to 19th century French paintings, Native American Art and arts from Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Meta review

Despite its size, the museum is seldom featured in travel magazines and blogs though it makes the Brooklyn list in travel guides. Online reviews are essentially positive but not exceptional. Visitors enjoy the lack of crowd, less unreasonable pricing than the Manhattan options, the excellent temporary exhibitions such as that of Andy Warhol or Dior (in the recent past), and the Ancient Egypt exhibits comes top among the permanent collection favourites. The main recurring negative comments relate to several sections being closed (at completely different review dates) and the fact that the best-known artists generally only have a couple of artworks on display.

Environmental & Social

No data available. Some environment impact to run the museum (mostly electricity). Positive from a social perspective as it helps spread culture and the arts

Conclusion

The Brooklyn Museum would have stood out in most cities but in New York it contends with some heavyweight with more depth in their various collections and more world-famous artwork. We would recommend this venue to visitors keen on looking at a wide range of good art in general and not obsessed with one particular artist or artistic movement.
