Battery Park, East Coast Memorial - by JianZ on Google
Description
The Battery is a public park facing New York Harbour, at the southern tip of Manhattan. It contains several monuments, memorials, sculptures and attractions such as Castle Clinton built in the early 19th century that served as the first American immigration station, the East Coast Memorial to WW2 where over 4,000 names are engraved on granite pylons, the Korean War Memorial black granite obelisk, and the Sea Glass carousel. The park is also the launchpad for several ferry services to Liberty Island, Ellis Island and Governors Island.
Access & Transport
The park is walking distance from Wall Street and the Financial District. It is served by the South Ferry (1), Whitehall St (N, R, W) and Bowling Green (4, 5) underground stations. The Staten Island Ferry leaves from its south-eastern corner.

Environmental & Social
No environmental footprint. Preserves the city's historical heritage
Conclusion
A park with great cultural potential that is unfortunately not showcased and maintained well enough. We also think too many memorials in one spot dilutes the meaning (and attention span). Worth checking out but you will need to complement your visit with some personal reading
Key positive
Interesting historical background
Good sunset views
Key negative
The ferries' business encroaches on the cultural aspects
Suitability
No restrictions
