Tribeca, James Cohan Gallery - by Management
Description
Tribeca is a neighbourhood in Lower Manhattan, originally written as TriBeCa (standing for "Triangle Below Canal Street") it is bounded by Canal Street, West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It is nowadays an expensive residential area popular with artists and galleries, actors and entrepreneurs rehabilitating fancy lofts. Previously, it was used by merchants and traders (dry goods and textiles), which explains why, like SoHo, there are many industrial buildings reconverted into residential units. Notable buildings and points of interest include Hook & Ladder Company No. 8 (a still-in-use firehouse featured in the Ghostbusters movies), the Verizon Building and AT&T Long Distance Building (32 Avenue of the Americas), the Hudson River Park, and the Powell Building.
Access & Transport
The neighbourhood is in downtown Manhattan, directly south of SoHo. It is well served by public transport with 'Franklin Street' (1, 2) roughly at its centre, Chambers St (1, 2, 3, A, C) and City Hall (N, R, W) on its southern edge and Canal Street (a, 2, A, C, E, 4, 6, J, Z) on its northern one.
