Washington Square Park is one of New York City's best-known parks (the chess tables in particular). It is dominated by the marble Washing Square Arch memorial erected in 1889 to celebrate the centennial of George Washington's inauguration as president of the U.S.A. Visitors can often see street performers in this 4ha park.
