Magnan & Lenval Beaches, Nice

137 Promenade des Anglais, Nice, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Description

The Magnan & Lenval Beaches are two pebble public beaches on the seafront of Nice, a little west from the centre of the bay lined by the Promenade des Anglais. Both are equipped with showers and toilets and the Magnan Beach has lifeguards on duty from June to September whilst the Lenval Beach is tobacco-free.

Access & Transport

The Lenval Beach is right across the road from the Lenval hospital and Magnan is immediately to its east. The best transport options are the tram with "Lenval Hôpital" on Line 2 and the bus: "Lenval / Promenade" and "Magnan / Promenade" (12, 32, A) on the Promenade des Anglais. There are parking options in the neighbourhood such as Parking Indigo Nice Laval and Parking Indigo Nice Magnan Note that none of these beaches is equipped for handicap access but the Plage du Centenaire and the Plage du Carras are.

Instructions & Recommendations

It's the beach and the sun can be strong in the southeast of France so don't forget the usual protective equipment (hat/cap, "green" sunblock, sunglasses, slippers) and some water. Other nearby activities include the Fine Arts Museum and the Villa Masséna Museum

Meta review

Visitors mostly enjoy those two beaches, especially during the summer peak period as they are less crowded than their eastern counterparts. Lenval also has the benefit of having less cigarette butts, being tobacco free.

Environmental & Social

Reasonable infrastructure and low carbon footprint. No negative social impact

Conclusion

Those two beaches (that can be considered one, really) are a good option for anybody looking to swim or lie in the sun in a slightly less crowded environment compared to the options directly across the center of town (near the Jardin Albert Ier) and not willing to pay for the comfort and amenities of a private beach. If you are looking for soft sand, no luck though - the closest might be in Villefranche sur Mer.
