Description

The Marché Aux Fleurs Cours Saleya is a famous flower market but also sells fruits, vegetables, and local crafts products. Cours Saleya is the main pedestrian artery in the Vieux Nice and the flower market started operations in the late 19h century as one of the largest wholesale flowers markets in the world. It has expanded over time to include other products and has become extremely popular with tourists as well.

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Cathedral and an exploration of the Vieux Nice neighbourhood. Castle Hill Park is also nearby.

Meta review

The market is a bit of a local institution and online reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Visitors enjoy the atmosphere with friendly locals and the array of products available for sale such as charcuterie (meat cold cuts), cheese, fruits, fresh flowers, olives, Marseille soap and plenty of decorative items. The various food stalls selling local specialities such as socca (chickpea pancake) get positive mentions and some travellers note that the market starts operations later in winter.

Environmental & Social

No environmental data available. We deem this activity neutral socially since we have no information relating to the origin of products and the rent system.

Conclusion

The Vieux Nice is a must-see in the city and the market on Cours Saleya is one of its colourful highlights. It isn't very large and is worth exploring at least once during a visit to Nice: a good place to buy souvenirs and load up on cheese and cold cuts before taking a flight back home!
