Description
Nuremberg Zoo (Tiergarten Nürnberg) is one of Europe's largest zoos. It is spread over 67ha in the Nuremberg Reichswald ("imperial forest") and keeps around 300 animal species including Siberian tigers, Asiatic lions, polar bears, rhinoceroses, zebras and wolves. There is also a dolphin lagoon where shows are held and scheduled feeding times for lions, seals, otters and penguins.
Access & Transport
The zoological garden is 7km east of Nuremberg city center. It can easily be accessed by bus (E5 / 45) or tram (5). The S-bahn station of Nürnberg-Mögeldorf (S1) is 1.2km away.
Instructions & Recommendations
This attraction is geographically near the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds (4km)
Environmental & Social
The zoo operates a rescue station for injured animals and has been designated an EU-conservation area. It also supports organisations that stand up for the protection of threatened species and, in the past, it has released eagle owls and Ural owls - both nearly extinct - into the wild.
