Erdinger Brewery Tour

20 Franz-Brombach-Straße, Erding, Bayern

Description

Erdinger Weißbräu is Germany's largest wheat beer brewery. It was founded in 1886 (with a different name back then) and today it markets more than 10 varieties of beers, including an "alcohol free " version (ABV 0.4%). The brewery holds 3h tour (in German and English) that shows visitors around the brewing and bottling operations before they enjoy some beer tasting accompanied by traditional beer garden fare such as sausages and pretzels.

Access & Transport

Address: Franz-Brombach-Str. 1-20, 85435 Erding Erding is 45km northeast of Munich, by car take the A94 towards Passau until exit 9b-Markt Schwaben toward A92/Flughafen München/Erding and then, after 20mins, onto the A94 to Passau until exit 9b-Markt Schwaben toward “Erding-Nord/Oberding/Niederding”. By train from Munich, take the “S2” from Munich main station to Erding followed by bus 540 to the “Brauerei” stop.

Instructions & Recommendations

It is essential to book your tour in advance. Note from management: the bottling plant doesn't operate on Friday afternoons and Saturday and operations can be halted for various reasons during the week without prior notice. If that is the case, visitors will instead be shown an informative film that describes the bottling process in detail.

Meta review

Online reviews for the tour are very positive, stressing the quality of the guides and how impressive the automation of the facilities is. Thumbs up as well for the generous samples of beer and food. A few visitors commented that the tour has been of interest to children as well.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally this activity is quite neutral. Socially slightly negative as it effectively encourages the consumption of alcohol.

Conclusion

If you are in Bavaria and have never visited a beer brewery or are a fan of Erdinger products, we think this activity should be on your radar. It is reasonably priced, interesting not just for adults but also older kids, and can easily be done as a day trip from Munich - although you may not be in a state to drive afterwards.
