Description
Expo '70 Commemorative Park is the former site of Japan World Exposition, the World's Fair that took place in Oska in 1970. The complex comprises a 26ha Japanese Garden, the National Museum of Ethnology, a stadium, the Natural and Cultural Gardens (98ha consisting of lawn and forest), the Expoland amusement park, the Tower of the Sun monument used as an icon for the event, and the Expo’70 Pavilion that acts as a kind of commemorative museum.
Access & Transport
The park is located in northern Osaka, 14km from Umeda station. It is served by the Osaka Monorail which stops at Bampakukinenkoen Station, roughly in the center of the park. Transfer from downtown is at the Senri-Chuo Station which is on the Midosuji subway line. There are car parking facilities on site. Directions: https://www.expo70-park.jp/languages/english/access/
Instructions & Recommendations
The gardens are open every day (incl. Wednesday) during cherry blossom season
Environmental & Social
Green environment that positively contributes to the quality of life of the city residents.
Conclusion
The Park makes for a nice green break for those not wanting to go through the trouble of taking a long public transport journey or of driving out of Osaka proper. It is also a good family outing for local residents. However, in our opinion, it falls short of being a real city highlight.
