Description
The Osaka Museum of History documents the various periods of the city's history, starting from the time of the Naniwanomiya Palace (7th century AD), a recreation of which is exhibited on the top floor. Going down floors, visitors will be consecutively immersed in the Edo Period, archaeological exhibits (there are some ruins in the basement floor as well), and the first part of the 20th century (late Taisho and early Showa period).
Access & Transport
The museum is at the southwest corner of the Osaka Castle moat, about 3.5km from Umeda train station. The Tanimachiyonchome Station (Chuo and Tanimachi lines) is right behind the museum's building.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this attraction with the Osaka Castle, right next to it. There is a combined ticket option (1,000 yen).
Environmental & Social
No environmental data. Some electricity consumption (cooling/heating and lighting). Helps spread culture
Conclusion
The museum has elected an original way to present the city's history, this will suit the younger ones and those with broad interests but history buffs may feel a little short-changed by the lack of in-depth content, especially given the topic is a narrow one. As a results, even though the content is somewhat interesting, the museum is a secondary attraction.
Key positive
Visually engaging
Key negative
Lacks data and linkage between the periods exhibited
Suitability
Suitable for all ages but best for children aged 10 and above. Accessible for visitors with reduced mobility
