Description
The Umeda Sky Building consists of two 40-story 170m tall towers linked together at their two uppermost stories to form a Floating Garden Observatory (Kuchu Tien Observatory). The highlights are not solely the views from there but also the two escalators, with great glass windows framed by metallic arches, that span the divide between the towers.
Access & Transport
The building is in the Umeda neighbourhood, a few mins walk from the JR Osaka Station, the Hankyu Osaka Umeda station, and the Umeda metro station (Midosuji line) Directions info: https://www.skybldg.co.jp/en/#s-access For wheelchair users, take the high-floor elevator to the 39th floor from the first floor of Tower East (in order to avoid the See-Through Escalator on the 35th floor)
Instructions & Recommendations
-
Environmental & Social
Steel, glass, and concrete tower. Not an eco-friendly attraction although the skyscraper was not intended primarily as a tourist attraction.
Conclusion
If you care more about architecture, originality and the special thrills of the escalators, then the ride up to the Sky Building observatory fits the bill, but if you are after the best views in the city then you should look into other alternatives (cheaper as well).
Key positive
Creative architecture
Key negative
Slightly expensive
Suitability
The observation deck is accessible for wheelchair users but not the escalators
