Plaza de El Fontán (Oviedo) - by Sonia Lucia on Google
Description
Plaza de El Fontán is Oviedo's most distinctive square, it owes its name to the underground spring that filled a lagoon in that location before it was developed into a marketplace and then a town square with colourful buildings of different heights. There are stores, bars, and restaurants sheltered under arcades and the covered market of El Fontán is next to it.
Access & Transport
The square is located in the historical centre of Oviedo, walking distance to the main sights in town. Oviedo is roughly in the centre of the Asturias region, 120km north of León and 190km west of Santander.
Instructions & Recommendations
The San Francisco Park and the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias are both within a 5 mins walk
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral and part of the town's architectural heritage.
Conclusion
A square with a slightly unusual look, lacking architectural uniformity but colourful and charming. Nice to see but not a major regional highlight
