Balenciaga Museum - by Antonio Jimenez on Google
Description
The Balencia Museum is located in Guetaria, the hometown of haute-couture designer Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre. It is housed in the 19th century Aldamar Palace with a modern glass and metal annex. The collection consists of over 1200 garments and accessories designed by Balenciaga.
Access & Transport
The museum is located on the inland side of the main road of Getaria. The village is on the coastline of Guipúzcoa, 25km west of San Sebastian and 80km east of Bilbao. From San Sebastian by car, take the expressway AP-8 and exit 38 after 16km onto N-634 for the last 6km. Accessibility info: https://www.cristobalbalenciagamuseoa.com/en/visit/accessibility-/
Instructions & Recommendations
The village itself is worth a quick exploration and the visit can easily be combined with the Loyola Sanctuary or the Azpeitia Railway Museum, 25-30km to the south.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data available online. Some electricity consumption and a purposely built glass and metal annex. Brings a small influx of economic activity to the village
Conclusion
A museum worth visiting for those either interested in fashion or just art in all its forms. In our opinion, it does not warrant a dedicated long drive on its own, so best to combine with other sights in the area.
