Peña del Oso hike - by SImon Dollee on Alltrails

Description
The Montaña Palentina Natural Park is located on the south-eastern edge of the Cantabrian mountain range, in the north of the province of Palencia. The 12km circular Peña del Oso route is well-marked, non-technical with a total ascent of 430m, making it suitable for inexperienced hikers and families with a base fitness level. The landscape is quite pastoral with rivers, valleys, horses, and cattle.
Access & Transport
The trail head starts at the north-western end of the village of Cevera de Pisuerga, just after the public swimming pool and sports complex where visors can park. The village itself is about 1h45mins drive from either Leon or Valladolid and 1h30 from Santander.
Instructions & Recommendations
Make sure to bring plenty of water, some snacks, sun protection, and rain/wind coat depending on the weather forecast.
Environmental & Social
Eco-friendly activity. Socially marginally positive as it brings some revenues to the villages in the area
Conclusion
The Peña del Oso hike is not one to travel for from afar, but for families in the Leon or Palencia provinces that are looking for outdoor options, this is one good candidate as long as you do not require proper mountain views.
