Galleries Lafayette (Haussman)

40 Boulevard Haussmann, Paris, Île-de-France

Description

The Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussman is one of the famous Parisian grand Magasins, alongside Le Bon Marché and Printemps. Shoppers can find a variety of fashion brands and products ranging from clothing (men and women), accessories, beauty, jewellery and timepieces to home & leisure and gourmet food. The actual buildings were acquired at the beginning of the 20th century and its famous glass and steel dome (or Coupole, in French) was completed in 1912. The flagship store was renovated in Art Deco style in 1932 and now covers 70,000m² over 4 buildings. The group has expanded to over 50 stores in France alone and also count several overseas outlets.

Access & Transport

The most convenient way to get to the store is by métro with station Chaussée d'Antin La Fayette (7, 9) on its doorstep or Gare de Haussman Saint Lazare (RER E). Bus stops on Bd Haussman and rue de Mogador are also very close by. For those who drive, paying parking entrance is at the corner of Bd Haussman and rue Mogador.

Instructions & Recommendations

This activity is best combined with a visit of the Opera Garnier across the Boulevard Haussman, the Musée Grévin (wax museum) or the Madeleine church - both less than 10mins walk away.

Meta review

Visitors and shoppers alike mostly have a positive experience, in particular they enjoy the Christmas decorations, the glass dome, and the gourmet food. There are some reviewers who have had a negative experience with customer service or refund issues - the usual.

Environmental & Social

The Group has a comprehensive CSR policy. On the environmental side the focus is on a recycling, decreasing CO2 emissions and reducing food waste (meals given to charities). On the social side they provide regular training to their employees and ensure there is workforce diversity.

Conclusion

The Galleries Lafayette is an attractive shopping option, mixing design, architecture, and a wide fashion offering. If you are planning on shopping or travelling with someone planning on doing so, this is an excellent option (the food section and the glass dome + staircase will keep you occupied for a while); if not, we do not think it is worth a detour.
