Triangle d'Or, Paris

Avenue Montaigne, Paris, Île-de-France

Description

The Triangle d'Or ("Golden Triangle") is the nickname given to one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping and residential areas of Paris. Its boundaries are the Champs-Élysées (to the north), Avenues Geoge V (to the west) and Avenue Montaigne (southeast). For the purpose of this review, we will also include the "Small Golden Triangle" on the other side of Avenue Montaigne which extends until Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt (to the east) and Cours Albert 1st (to the south). Many of the haute-couture brands have a store there (think Channel, LV, Valentino, etc.) and 2 of the best hotels in the city are also located in the neighbourhood: the Plaza Athénée and the Four Seasons Hôtel George V.

Access & Transport

Conveniently, there is a métro stop at each of the Golden triangle corners: George V, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Alma Marceau. Parking in the neighbourhood is possible but expensive.

Instructions & Recommendations

Stores mostly open around 10h00 or 11h00 (13h00 or closed on Sundays) so best to go from lunch time until early evening. This activity is best combined with a stroll around the Champs-Élysées and possibly a visit of the Quai Branly Museum, across the Pont de l'Alma.

Meta review

The area is often featured in fashion and travel magazines as an exclusive shoppers neighbourhood but is not really covered by major review portals as a tourist attraction.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally, there is no data at the neighbourhood level, but it is mostly concrete with little by way of green spaces. From a social perspective, this has pretty much always been an upper-class residential area so there has been little or no impact on the community, except to render it ever more exclusive and international.

Conclusion

The Paris Golden Triangle has nice buildings and a few entertainment venues / bars but other than that the focus is squarely on expensive retail stores. If you have the budget for it then by all means, if not there isn't anything else that should hold your interest.

Key positive

Much less crowded than other neighbourhoods

Many luxury brands concentrated in a small area

Easy to get to and centrally located

Key negative

Not much to see other than retail stores

Most of the stores are luxury ones so not for everybody

Suitability

Accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility depends on each store - the pavements and road crossing should not be problematic.
