Description
The Mütter Museum is part of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia; it is a medical museum containing anatomical and pathological specimens - including full skeletons, wax models displaying various pathologies, and antique medical equipment. Trivia: you can view slides of Albert Einstein's brain in the museum.
Access & Transport
The museum is on the western side of central Philadelphia, near the Schuylkill River, just south of Market Street. The '22nd St' trolley station (10, 11, 13, 34, 36) and '22nd St & Market St' bus station are just 100m away There are 2 paid parking lots directly next to and behind the building. There is also metered on-street parking on most of the streets surrounding the Museum. The building is wheelchair accessible at its east entrance, on Van Pelt Street
Instructions & Recommendations
*** Due to capacity limitations, it is highly recommended to buy tickets online ahead of time *** The collection is comprised primarily of human remains, some displaying genitalia, traumatic injuries, or disfiguring pathologies which may be disturbing to young children. For this reason, the Management recommends the Museum for children ages 10 and up.
Environmental & Social
Small carbon footprint and some educational aspects
Conclusion
The museum clearly has some potential given there is so much to learn about the human body, but execution looks quite average and could do with a curation upgrade. The pricing is not aligned with the quality of the experience.
