Torre dos Clérigos - by Management

Description
Torre dos Clérigos is a 75m-tall bell tower constructed in the 1850s with a design inspired by Tuscan campaniles. There are 240 steps and 6 floors to the top from where visitors can enjoy views over Porto. The tower is a companion to the namesake church (Igreja dos Clérigos) that is fronted by a monumental divided stairway and sports a façade decorated with Baroque motifs. Inside, there is a polychromatic altarpiece by Manuel Porto.
Access & Transport
The church is located in the historical district of Porto, 300m west of Praça da Liberdade. There is a tram stop (18) next to the monument and the São Bento metro (D) and train station is a 5mins walk away.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this monument with a visit of the Livraria Lello (famous bookstore) and the Igreja do Carmo (church with a tiled side façade).
Environmental & Social
Environmentally neutral and part of the city's architectural heritage
Conclusion
The bell tower is a landmark of the Porto's skyline and certainly worth discovering from up close but we don't think the going up offers fantastic value or unique views. Nice but overrated.
Key positive
Eye-catching structure
Good panoramic views from the top
Key negative
Can be quite crowded at the top and in the staircase
Suitability
Not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility (stairs all the way up)
