Girona Tapas & Wine evening tour

6 Carrer Nord, Girona, Catalunya

Description

Girona Food Tour runs food and market tours as well as cooking classes in Girona. This review is for their "tapas and Wine Experience by Night" consisting in a guided walking tour of several restaurants / tapas bars in the old quarters of Girona. Besides tapas and local wine (red, white and cava), you will visit a jamón shop (cured ham) to learn more about this Spanish speciality, a local fish restaurant and stop at the famous Rocambolesc ice cream shop (created by Jordi Roca of El Celler de Can Roca fame). The tours last 3.5-4.0h

Access & Transport

Meting point is at the operator's shop at #6 carrer Nord (right in front of Hotel Nord 1901). This is on the western bank of the Onyar river, close to the red painted Pont de les Peixateries Velles.

Instructions & Recommendations

Make sure you read the terms and conditions on the website (if the min. number of 5 people is not met you can book an alternative date or request for a full refund) and arrive on time at the meeting point. Before the tour, we suggest you visit the old town with its Cathedral and St Felix Basilica.

Meta review

Fantastic reviews for this tour which is clearly one of the most popular in the city. Customers recommend it for the fun and engaging guides who share plenty of background facts and interesting stories about Girona. They also enjoy the food and drinks, especially the pata negra, cava and ice cream.

Environmental & Social

Environmentally neutral. Socially positive as it helps promote small independent operators with a strong connection to their neighbourhood and city

Conclusion

This tour is one of the best ways to discover Girona beyond its monuments and the shots of the houses flanking the Onyar river. If you have the budget and don't mind meeting other people, it is a time efficient and reasonably priced way to blend urban exploration, excellent food and drinks with some historical info and trivia about Girona.

Key positive

An enjoyable way to meet people and discover the city

An opportunity to try various food and drinks and learn more about how they are produced

Key negative

A little expensive - but then the tour is limited to 10 participants

Suitability

Best suited for adults but kids can join (they will not be able to drink alcohol though). Customers with reduced mobility should contact the operator ahead of time to notify them so an adequate route can be planned for that evening.
