Testaccio market - by Valerio Di Mario on Google
Description
The Testaccio Market offers an array of fruits and vegetables, grocery, meat, fish, street food, and fashion accessories stalls housed in a covered building designed by architect Marco Rietti with a contemporary minimalistic look. The traditional market was transferred there from Piazza Testaccio in 2012. The new market even has an archaeological area.
Access & Transport
The market is at the southern end of the Testaccio neighbourhood, between via Aldo Manuzio and via Galvani. Buses 83, 718, 719 and 775 stop at Galvani/Zabaglia. The Tram stop Marmorata/Galvani (8) is 600m away and the metro station Piramide (MEB, MEB1) is 1km away.
Instructions & Recommendations
Note that the market is closed on Sundays.
Environmental & Social
No environmental / sourcing data. The small producers' aspect is a positive from a social perspective, but the pricing is a negative community-wise.
Conclusion
A nice mid-size market with some quality products and a central area to eat that makes for a good lunch place when visiting the Testaccio neighbourhood. It is a little on the expensive side and probably not worth a long detour though.
Key positive
Some good quality food with a central area to eat
Lacks character
Key negative
Nothing exceptional
A little overpriced
Suitability
No restrictions
