Description
The California State Railroad Museum is located in Sacramento and features 19 restored steam locomotives and railroad cars and various exhibits documenting the influence of railroads from the mid-19th century, including a large-scale mock-up of a construction scene high in the Sierra Nevada. The locomotives date from 1862 to 1944 and the museum illustrates the development of steam technology from its early years in the mid-nineteenth century through its apogee and climax in the 1940s.
Access & Transport
The museum is in Old Sacramento State Historic Park, just off the I-5 exit 519. It is also a short walking distance from the Amtrack Sacramento Valley Station.
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the nearby Old Sacramento Waterfront and California State Capitol Museum.
Environmental & Social
Helps preserve the technical and historical heritage of the region. Low environmental footprint.
Conclusion
A must see for buffs of all things-mechanicals but everybody should actually enjoy this museum which happens to be located close to other attractions in the center of Sacramento. Price is fair and good value.
