Description
The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco displays over 2,000 Asian works of art, some of which are 6,000 years old. The core of the permanent collection was bequeathed by Avery Brundage. Galleries cover most Asian regions such as South Asia, Central Asia, Iran/Persia, the Himalayas, China, Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia. There is also a Japanese tea house on display.
Access & Transport
The museum is at 200 Larkin St, a 2mins walk from 'Market St & 8th St' and 'Civic Center' subway stations. There are bus stops on Larkin St (19) and McAllister St (101, 130, 150) as well
Instructions & Recommendations
Timed tickets are strongly encouraged Nearby activities/attractions include the Mission District, the Painted Ladies (houses) and, if you are keen on more art, the Museum of Modern Art.
Environmental & Social
No environmental data available online. Some impact from running the museum (mostly electricity). Positive from a social perspective as it helps spread culture and the arts
Conclusion
A solid and wide-ranging collection that should be of interest to the casual visitor as well as those with specific interest in Asian arts. The central location means it is easy to add to one's itinerary.
