Somo beach - by Victoria Garcia Sanchez on Google

Description
Somo beach is located just across the Bay of Santander, east of the city and next to the sand bar and dunes of El Puntal. It measures 2km, is popular with surfers (there is a surf school) and has comprehensive tourist infrastructure with lifeguard and showers.
Access & Transport
Just across the Bay but it is a 25km drive around (S-10 and exit 12 towards Somo) from the centre of Santander. However, there is a ferry service running from "Estaciόn Marίtima Los Reginas" (Paseo de Pereda) which cost about 5 euros return.
Instructions & Recommendations
If you have time and are more interested in landscape than surfing or swimming, we suggest a walk to the neighbouring sandbar of El Puntal. Ferry timing: https://www.losreginas.com/paseos-en-barco-por-la-bahia-de-santander-con-escala-en-pedrena-y-somo/horarios-y-tarifas-viaje-pedrena-somo/
Environmental & Social
No carbon footprint linked to this attraction. Marginally positive for the local F&B and surfing school operators.
Conclusion
Not the prettiest beach in Cantabria or Asturias but a short ride from Santander for a good seaside walk or some surfing. If what you are after is sunbathing & swimming only, then it may make sense to look for another option, there are some in the city itself.
Key positive

Key negative
Surfers may forget about swimmers
