Description
Duratón River Gorges Natural Park (Parque Natural de las Hoces del Río Duratón) contains a series of canyons up to 100m high with pronounced bends formed by the Duratón River. Other attractions include the colony of griffon vultures enjoying this habitat and two architectural attractions, namely the monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Hoz and the hermitage of San Frutos.
Access & Transport
The park is situated in the northeast of Segovia province, the standard access is from Villaseca (on the SG-V-2418) which is 12km from Sepulveda and 63km from Segovia.
Instructions & Recommendations
The interpretation center is located in Sepúlveda, in the old church of Santiago. There are several hiking paths within the park.
Environmental & Social
Green attraction. Tourism brings some revenues to the surrounding villages.
Conclusion
The Duratón River Gorges are clearly worth a detour for those in the Segovia province and the park has several easy trails that work well for families. We would not qualify the park of regional highlight though given the competing alternatives and its remoteness.
