Lotte World Adventure

, Olympic-ro, Seoul

Description

Lotte World Adventure consists of one of the world's largest indoor theme parks (spread over four floors) and an outdoor amusement park called 'Magic Island'. It is part of the wider Lotte World complex in the southeast of Seoul. There are over 40 rides and attractions ranging from adrenaline-inducing such as Atlantis roller coaster and the Bungee Drop to family-friendly and colourful like The Adventures of Sinbad.

Access & Transport

The Lotte World complex is in the Songpa district, just across the Jamsil bridge. It is directly served by the Jamsil subway station (2, 8). There is (paid) parking available on site for those electing to drive.

Instructions & Recommendations

There is a ticket combo option with the Folk Museum that displays miniature models of Korea throughout the last five millennia.

Meta review

One of Korea's best-known amusement parks, the online reviews are quite mediocre (and filled with fake entries) - not bad, just average. The fault lies, as expected, with the long waiting times for the most popular rides; for those you may need to invest in the Magic Pass. One way around, and a lot of families seem to be doing that, is to focus on the rides catering to children that have more manageable queues. Otherwise, the food isn't egregiously expensive but don't expect the healthy type and the rides seem to be well maintained.

Environmental & Social

The Lotte Group ESG report is long but scant in figures and often doesn't break down data by company. There are some green procurement initiatives and a move to replace disposable containers but that doesn't hide the fact that theme parks are energy intensive. A few social actions as well but nothing large scale.

Conclusion

Lotte World should please most theme parks enthusiasts but expect the usual drawback of long waiting times or an expensive day out if you shell out for the express pass. If roller coasters or children rides are not up your alley, then obviously there are better (and cheaper) things to do in Seoul.
