Arrábida Natural Park - by Jose Silva on Google
Description
The Arrábida Natural Park covers the southern portion of the Setúbal Peninsula and is characterized by its mountain range (Serra da Arrabida culminating at 501m) only delineated from the Ocean by rocky cliffs. There are a few beaches such as Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha and the isolated monastery complex of the Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida is the main cultural attraction.
Access & Transport
The protected area is about 35km south of Lisbon and can be accessed from the Santana and Sesimbra side (in the west), Azeitao from the A2 (in the north on the N10) and from Setubal (in the east, from the N10 as well)
Instructions & Recommendations
We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the town of Setubal, including the Fort of São Filipe.
Environmental & Social
Green attraction. Tourism has some positive impact on the local economic activity
Conclusion
The Arrábida Natural Park is worth including in a regional itinerary but, in our opinion, not special enough in terms of views or content to warrant a dedicated trip from further out than Lisbon.
Key positive
Enjoyable ocean views
Not busy
Key negative
The inland landscape is quite common
Suitability
No restriction for the road views but most trails and beach access will not be suitable for visitors with reduced mobility
