Sevilla Aquarium

Paseo de las Delicias, Sevilla, Andalucía

Description

The Aquarium of Seville holds over 7,000 specimens from about 400 different aquatic species in over 30 different tanks. The highlight is the oceanarium with its 9m high water column. Themed areas include Guadalquivir, Atlantic, Amazonian, Pacific and Indo-Pacific. According to the website, these are modelled after Magellan voyage around the world in 1519.

Access & Transport

Address: Muelle de las Delicias, Área Sur, Puerto de Sevilla The aquarium is situated along the Guadalquivir, between the Puente de lor Remedios and Puente de la Delicias. There is public underground parking next to the Aquarium (entrance through the Av.Molini) There are bus stops on Paseo de las Delicias and Av. de la Palmera. The closest Metro and Tram stops (M1, T1) are 'Puerta Jerez' and 'Prado de San Sebastián', a 15mins' walk away.

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with a visit of the Seville Archaeological Museum and the Parque de María Luisa.

Meta review

Online reviews are quite positive overall; the main issue seems to be one of value for money given the entrance fee is fairly high and the aquarium on the small side. That being said, visitors enjoy the variety of species, with sharks and jellyfishes the most mentioned highlights, and they also state that there is appropriate information provided about the species and human impacts next to the various tanks.

Environmental & Social

The Aquarium is involved in on-site breeding programs and off-site conservation efforts. More info here: https://www.acuariosevilla.es/en/conservation/ It also has education programs for schools

Conclusion

The Aquarium of Seville is probably not anybody's first thought when visiting the city but for those (families in particular) looking to take a break from palaces, churches and other museums - or seeking to escape the sun - this is a good option, although value isn't great.
