Sharjah Aquarium

Al Meena Street, Sharjah, Sharjah

Description

Sharjah Aquarium houses over 100 marine species such as reef sharks, moray eels and seahorses in 21 tanks, focusing on habitats such as the lagoons, mangroves, rocky shores, and coral reefs.

Access & Transport

The aquarium is located in Sharjah's Al Khan Old area, at the northern end of Corniche Rd and about 500m from Dubai's Al Mamzar Beach Park as the crow flies.

Instructions & Recommendations

We suggest combining this activity with the adjacent Sharjah Maritime Museum

Meta review

The aquarium is described as best for younger children. Nothing too fancy but a good place to spend an hour and affordably priced. Tip: only cash payment is possible according to some reviewers

Environmental & Social

Holds a turtle rehabilitation program and organizes an annual clean-up campaign. Some carbon footprint from A/C usage

Conclusion

The Sharjah Aquarium isn't worth a special trip from afar but for families with younger children in the city or in Dubai's Deira neighbourhood it certainly should be considered, especially when coupled with the maritime museum next door.
