ArtScience Museum

6 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore,

Description

The ArtScience Museum features exhibitions that blend art and culture but also science and technology. It is part of the Marina Bay Sands integrated casino development and its lotus flower shape was designed by Moshe Safdie. There are 21 galleries spread over 3 storeys that host a permanent and several touring exhibitions. The permanent exhibition is called "Future World: Where Art Meets Science" and consists of four sections: City in A Garden, Sanctuary, Park, and Space.

Access & Transport

The museum is located at 6 Bayfront Ave, on the waterfront side of the Marina Bay Sands. Bayfront MRT station (Downtown and Circle lines) is located under the MBS complex, about 400m away. There are some bus stops along Bayfront Ave. You can also walk from Gardens by the Bay area or Esplanade across the Helix Bridge.

Instructions & Recommendations

This activity combines well with a visit of the Marina Bay Sands complex and the Gardens by the Bay

Meta review

Good reviews overall for a museum, especially from parents stating that their kids really did enjoy the several interactive exhibits. But it's not children only, most adults are positive about their art meets science/technology experience. There are some disappointed visitors as well though, mainly because they were expecting a more cultural attraction.

Environmental & Social

The Museum has a Gold LEED certification and sustainability features such as rain harvesting and maximizing illumination of the galleries from natural daylight. Socially, it helps spread the arts and the value of architectural design.

Conclusion

The ArtScience Museum is not only worth visiting for its design but depending on your specific interest there might be a touring exhibition of interest. If you have not seen it before, the Future World exhibition makes for a good visit as well. Do not expect traditional art and culture but an interesting and stimulating interaction of artistic light display and digital technology. Not everybody will be convinced but we think it is worth checking out.
