Bird Paradise, Singapore

20 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore,

Description

Bird Park is an aviary with over 3,500 birds across 400 species, making it one the largest in the world. It recently moved from Jurong (its previous name was Jurong Bird Park) to relocate next to the Singapore Zoo in Mandai Highlights include a large flock of pink Flamingos, a Penguin zone, hornbills and toucans and some shows including birds of prey (e.g. eagles) and parrots.

Access & Transport

The park entrance is at 80 Mandai Lake Road and the easiest way to get there is by taxi / car. There are a few bus services that come to the Zoo and link with the Red or Brown MRT lines and some shuttles to town. Please check the following link for more info: https://www.mandai.com/en/bird-paradise/plan-your-visit/getting-here.html

Instructions & Recommendations

You may want to consider several of the animal parks, in which case a multi-park ticket may make sense. We would however advise against trying to visit another park on the same day as Bird Park except possibly for the Night Safari. Make sure to bring sun protection with you (cap/hat, sunglasses, sunblock and some water)

Meta review

A vast number of fakes reviews for this new addition to the Mandai complex. Pros include the variety of species and excellent infrastructure. On the not so good side there could be more signage to navigate the park, pricing is excessive and the garden atmosphere of Jurong Bird Park has been lost to a more theme park-style landscaping & deco.

Environmental & Social

Many visitors will point out that animals are being kept in captivity, but the Wildlife Reserves / Mandai Park Holdings group has comprehensive conservation programs and research projects across the globe. More info can be found here: https://www.mandai.com/en/saving-wildlife/care-for-planet.html

Conclusion

A very good park focused on birds so only some degree of overlap with the zoo. Some room for improvement but overall a great family option. Value is very average though considering the price.
